Two small businesses, ThermoAnalytics (prime contractor) and Aerodyne Research (subcontractor) , propose to collaborate on a major integration of signature codes. Government agencies have been sponsoring independent signature code development programs for several years resulting in very specialized analysis tools. This proposed effort will directly support the integration of the PRISM/MuSES, SPIRITS, and GTSIMS models with particular emphasis on a suitable exhaust plume model. Phase I activities include tasks that will enhance the state-of-the-art in image based systems (lBS) radiation view factor codes. Two specific applications of direct interest include an air-to-ground engagement simulation where PRISM/MUSES will be the primary ground vehicle target model (augmented by this new plume code for engine exhaust components) GTSIMS, particularly DISAMS, will provide the missile sensor-dynamics. The second application is a ground-to-air engagement where SPIRITS is the primary target model that will be augmented with the plume code for rotary wing vehicles in which rotor downwash creates a full three-dimensional or "bent" plume. GTSIMS (DISAMS) will again be the missile seeker model. The primary functional interfaces for these designated common modules will be defined in Phase I. The modification and integration of these military computer codes will make this technology accessible to the auto industry for solving their heat management problems. PRISM/MuSES and SPIRITS in conjunction with GTSIMS will provide a simulation capability for measuring the performance of an automobile or aircraft collision avoidance system using passive infrared sensors.
