The continuing evolution of large-scale complex military communication systems has remained ahead of the available computer architecture design and modeling tool capabilities. Systems engineers require a tool which allows them to design and optimize large system designs proposed for communication networks. Recent advances in object oriented simulation techniques and advanced optimization algorithms represents an opportunity to significantly advance the state-of-the-art in large scale stributed communication network simulation tools. This SBIR project will combine the following advanced capabilities into a single environment for the design, capture, and analysis of network architectures: (1) a hierarchial multi-domain system design, capture, and analysis methodology, (2) a high performance graphic user interface, (3) an intelligent optimization agent, and (4) a multi-processor computing environment based upon emerging standards including UNIX and the X Window display stein. This Phase I project will include development of a rapid prototype which includes implementation of the critical items in the design and establishes the feasibility of the full scale tool.
