Abstract

This effort will produce an advanced outboard engine system that ha s significant advantqages for SOF missions. It combines a high power, light weight, multi-fuel two-cycle engine, a chain transfer drive and a novel waterjet propulsion unit. The engine originally was used in small race casrs, then developed for commercial use in personal watercraft and ultra lig;ht aircraft. Light weight chain drives have demonstrated their durability in transaxles for front wheel drive cars and transfer cases for 4x4 vehicles. A larger version of the waterjet has demonstrated the performance and durability of this sunique waterjet configuration. Extensive test data and operating experience minimizes risk.
