Glass Media Blasting - Hazardous Waste Minimization

HSATYA Tech 1 Services (SATYA) proposes to develop an alternative engineering method or waste management option for the disposal of hazardous Glass Media Bead-blast Waste (GBW) resulting from the Glass Media abrasive Bead-blasting (GMB) operations. A pollution prevention or waste minimization technique will be developed to help reduce large quantities hazardous GBW that is being generated at Naval Aviation Depots (NAVAVDEPOTS). Separation techniques will be investigated for the removal of the GBW constituents - such as paint chips, heavy metals etc. that make the resulting blast media waste hazardous. An engineering technique to help minimize the hazardous GBW will be developed and the technical feasibility of the alternative will be demonstrated during Phase I Option. Additionally, engineering feasibility and economic analysis will be performed. A successful completion of Phase I and Phase I Option will result in the development of a prototype during the follow-on Phase II effort.
