  1. Wireless Intelligent Sensor Platform for Emergency Responders

SBC: Oceanit Laboratories, Inc.            Topic: N/A

Oceanit proposes to develop a reliable, low-cost, easy-to-install, self-monitoring, and self-expanding wireless communication system to enable remote monitoring and tracking of sensors on emergency first responders in hostile environments. The heart of the system will use a Zigbee wireless mesh networking IC for low power and low cost communications. By using a wireless mesh network, low power wir ...

  3. Harvesting Energy for Wireless Sensor Networks

    SBC: AMBIENT MICRO            Topic: A07034

A key aim of the Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program is the development of enhanced remote sensing capabilities that provide commanders with improved situational awareness and battlefield shaping capabilities, while reducing potential casualties and manpower costs. Future Army WSN mission applications will utilize persistent wireless sensor networks to provide commanders with continuous s ...

  4. Novel Protein Nanodelivery Systems for Biological Agent Countermeasures

SBC: ANP TECHNOLOGIES, INC.            Topic: A04192

We propose to continue the development and characterization of a polymeric nanoencapsulation technology that can increase the lifetime of a protein therapeutic agent within a biological system. The materials have been demonstrated to exhibit no cytotoxicity and to efficiently deliver antibody against Protective Antigen of bacillus anthracis.

  5. Rapid Detection of Acetylcholinesterase-Inhibiting Pesticides in Water Using a Handheld Assay and Reader

SBC: ANP TECHNOLOGIES, INC.            Topic: A06159

We propose that a comparative colorimetric assay be developed that will use a ticket of the same dimensions as the current ANP immunoassay tickets. This will allow the AChE test to be conducted using a similar workflow as the lateral flow immunoassay-based HHAs and be similarly read on the ANP reader to yield an unambiguous result independent of user judgment.

  6. Rapid Detection of Acetylcholinesterase-Inhibiting Pesticides in Water Using a Handheld Assay and Reader

SBC: ANP TECHNOLOGIES, INC.            Topic: A06159

The feasibility of ANP's proposed seld-calibrated rapid test forf AChE inhibitors has been clearly shown in Phase I. Its compatability with ANP's handheld reader for immuno-assay based threat agent rapid testing has been confirmed. Phase II will finalize the design for robustness, full integration with the ANP handheld reader, manufacturing and affordability. Expansion of testing to include a w ...

  7. High Sensitivity Rugged Array Detectors for Field Deployed Instruments: Low-Light Level Camera for Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Ram

    SBC: B & W Tek Inc.            Topic: A06065

Low-light-level photodetector arrays are proposed for detecting the weak optical emission spectra from the trace atoms in the laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The proposed semiconductor image intensifier and low-light-level camera utilize the miniaturized and monolithically integrated version of a proven solid-state detector technology, and is expected to be able to detect femto-watts ...

  8. Highly Oxygen Permeable Perfluoro Membrane for the Air Cathode of Lithium-Air Batteries

SBC: COMPACT MEMBRANE SYSTEMS, INC.            Topic: OSD06EP4

This proposal addresses development of highly oxygen permeable perfluoromembranes for Lithium-Air organic electrolyte batteries. These batteries have demonstrated very high specific capacity (greater than 500 Wh/kg) at low rates in pure oxygen. Oxygen from the air can be utilized if a membrane is developed that allows for oxygen transport but prevents solvents in the organic electrolyte from diffu ...

  9. Membrane Produced Oxygen Enriched Air for Diesel Engine Power Enhancement

SBC: COMPACT MEMBRANE SYSTEMS, INC.            Topic: A07174

Compact Membrane Systems, Inc. (CMS) has been a pioneer in modifying the air charge to diesel engines with air separation membranes. Nitrogen-enriched air (NEA) supplied from polymeric membranes mounted on highway truck diesel engines have been shown to substantially reduce the NOx formation and emissions from the engine. The NEA membrane’s co-product, Oxygen-enriched air (OEA), when supplied ...
