The Award database is continually updated throughout the year. As a result, data for FY19 is not expected to be complete until April, 2020.

  1. Geolocation of GPS Jammers

We will build a Geolocation on GPS Jammer (GOGJ) Geolocator/Seeker and demonstrate a prototype system. The system will be tested in 3 phases: Ground-based tested, flight tested on a manned aircraft, and flight tested on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). We will demonstrate that the system is capable of precisely geolocating single and multiple jammers in each phase of testing.

  2. Decision Support Technologies for Weapon System Logistics Investment Decisions

SBC: FRONTIER TECHNOLOGY, INC            Topic: AF06016

The Air Force Smart Operations 21 (AFSO21) initiative is examining process improvements across the service. With this new evolving culture, it is critical to have detailed process definitions as well as a real understanding of how changes in those processes impact the country’s war-fighting capability. The Logistics Composite Model (LCOM) provides an important assessment capability to ensure ope ...

  3. In-line Optical Preamplifiers for Laser Radar Receivers

SBC: Aerius Photonics, LLC.            Topic: AF06142

The next generation of autonomously guided munition seekers requires the development of LADAR systems capable of detection through obscurants at greater ranges and with greater precision and speed while reducing system cost, weight, and power consumption. Aerius Photonics has developed an advanced in-line optical preamplifier (I-LOP) technology to enhance the performance of LADAR receiver systems ...

  4. New Technologies in Collaboration and Team Building

SBC: Applied Minds, LLC            Topic: AF06072

AMI seeks to continue its research into innovative software for forming ad-hoc teams, by collaborative support and enhancement of the People Finder software currently installed at AFRL. We will add features and functionality to the People Finder application that has taken us part of the way to developing a team-building application. We will leverage this system, learn from its users, and add funct ...

  5. Real Time Motion and Range Estimation of Dynamic Scene Using Monocular Video

Accurate passive range estimation from single electro-optical/infrared sensors is a valuable enabling technology for many applications, particularly for defense purposes. Two applications of great interest are Sense and Avoid (SAA) for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and missile warning systems (MWS) for manned aircraft. Current passive image ranging systems rely either on stereo vision (or “stere ...

  6. Ultrasensitive Diagnostics for Hypersonic Propulsion Systems

SBC: Los Gatos Research            Topic: AF06174

In this Small Business Innovative Research effort, Los Gatos Research, Inc. proposes to develop two laser-diagnostic instruments to accurately quantify CH4, C2H4, CO, CO2, O2, N2, and H2O in hypersonic, air-breathing propulsion systems. The first sensor will provide in situ measurements of specific key fuels and combustion species via both line-of-sight and internal probe deployments. The second ...

  7. Unified Pressurization and Valving for Smart-Material Based Electrohydrostatic Actuators (EHAs)

SBC: CSA Engineering, Inc.            Topic: AF06232

Smart materials have shown promise for fluid power generation within electrohydrostatic actuators (EHAs). The smart material pumps have been successfully built to operate at high frequencies, but valve limitations have consistently reduced overall performance. Both passive and active valve concepts have been designed and tested, but these approaches have resulted in bandwidth limitations and add ...

  8. Solid Rocket Motor Nozzles Made From Tantalum Carbide Continuous Fiber Composites for Boost Applications

SBC: EDWARD POPE DR            Topic: AF06105

This Air Force Phase II SBIR program seeks to further develop the first tantalum carbide (TaC) structural ceramic fiber for TaC(f)/TaC(m) CMCs for use in aluminized propellant solid rocket motor (SRM) applications. TaC has been identified as the best performing ceramic composition for aluminized propellant SRM applications. MATECH/GSM proposes to scale-up TaC structural ceramic fiber to a level su ...

  9. Multi-INT Ontology Mediation Services

SBC: DRAGON RESEARCH & ENGINEERING, INC.            Topic: AF06061

During Phase I, Dragon developed a prototype mediation application that uses an underlying Web Ontology Language (OWL) ontology to perform translation between systems. OMS surpasses traditional mediation tools by automating and standardizing the mapping exercise between system formats, and by encouraging true knowledge management across organizations. OMS can serve as a centralized “router,” ...

  10. Low-Cost, High-Performance Inertial Rate Sensors

SBC: Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems Corporation            Topic: AF06213

A number of emerging terrestrial and airborne defense systems require high-resolution Line of Sight (LOS) stabilization, which in turn requires high-accuracy, wide-bandwidth gyroscopes. Existing gyroscopes have two main deficiencies: their bandwidth is too low for these applications, and they do not deliver sufficient Angle Random Walk (ARW) performance within the application constraints for noise ...
