  1. Autonomous Broad Spectrum Environmental Sentinels

SBC: Nevada Nanotech Systems Inc.            Topic: A13AT017

We propose a platform for aerial environmental monitoring based on the integration of two advanced technologies for the first time: a lightweight, flying robotic platform capable of hovering and swarming, and a compact, low-power chemical sensor platform called the Molecular Property Spectrometer (MPS): a robust, low-cost, silicon-chip-based micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) that has been use ...

  2. Decision Making under Uncertainty for Dynamic Spectrum Access

SBC: INFOBEYOND TECHNOLOGY, LLC            Topic: AF13AT02

ABSTRACT: Due to scarcity of spectrum, Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) becomes a needed technology to improve the utilization of electromagnetic spectrum for DoD satellite communication. However, current DSA approaches are developed for terrestrial communications without addressing the unique challenges for SATCOM environments such as error-prone spectrum sensing, high mobility, and large coverage. ...

  3. Secure Efficient Cross-domain Protocols

SBC: INFOBEYOND TECHNOLOGY, LLC            Topic: AF13AT08

ABSTRACT: Coordinating and sharing information across multi-level security (MLS) networks are of great interest in many military applications. However, it is very challenging to accomplish those goals due to the heterogeneous security classifications of different network domains. The recent proposed cross-domain solutions (CDS) provide initial steps to make such applications possible. However, th ...

  4. Solar Blind MgZnO Photodetectors

SBC: AGNITRON TECHNOLOGY, INC            Topic: A13AT006

This project address the fabrication of solar blind detectors from the MgZnO material system. Both MBE and MOCVD material growth techniques will be used for deposition of the required material layers. Simulation software we be used to aid in the design of the photodetector structure. Devices will be fabricated from the grown structures and their electrical and optical characteristics determined.

  5. STTR Phase I: An Assistive Tool to Locate People and Objects with a Multimodal Thermogram Interface

SBC: MOAI TECHNOLOGIES, LLC            Topic: EI

This Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR) Phase I project will leverage past National Science Foundation Funded research to prove that a blind/low vision user can receive practical navigation and interaction information about their environment from a multimodal thermogram (thermal image) interface on a smartphone. There are no practical assistive technologies for blind or low vision ...

  6. STTR Phase I: Robot Rescue Responder-Learning Robot Programming through Playing Computer Games

SBC: MOAI TECHNOLOGIES, LLC            Topic: EA

This STTR Phase I project proposes to develop an interactive computer game to promote interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for high school students. The game will use NSF-funded technologies to teach students how to program and control robots while simultaneously maintaining student interest through the entertainment of playing a real time strategy (RTS) game. The proposed ...

  7. STTR Phase I: A Student Centered Adaptive Learning Engine

    SBC: Tutorgen, Inc.            Topic: EA

This STTR Phase I project proposes to develop and validate a student centered adaptive learning engine that is focused on improving learning outcomes using data collected from new and existing educational technology projects combined with advanced technology to automatically generate adaptive capabilities, thus creating ready-to-go intelligent tutoring systems. Providing adaptive instruction to st ...

  8. STTR Phase I: Pulsed Laser Polishing

SBC: LasX Industries, Inc.            Topic: NM

This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project will enable development of pulsed laser micro polishing equipment and the software needed to use and control the equipment. To obtain a desired level of polishing (a mirror finish for example), many decisions must be made such as the path of the polishing laser over a surface to be polished, the speed with which the laser beam moves, t ...

  9. STTR Phase I: A Novel Abdominal Stimulator to Assist with Ventilator Weaning in Patients

SBC: Liberate Medical LLC            Topic: BM

The broader impact/commercial potential of this Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I project, in which a new device and approach to weaning patients from mechanical ventilation is proposed, is a reduction in public health care expenditure and a reduction in morbidity for the half a million patients who have difficulty weaning from mechanical ventilation each year in the US. This proje ...
