Real Time 3-D Modeling and Immersive Visualization for Enhanced Soldier Situation Awareness
SBC: Carnegie Robotics LLC Topic: A12aT003We propose a rapid mapping and 3-D visualization system especially suited for inside buildings, tunnels, urban canyons, and other environments where GPS may be poor or not available. The system--which was fully demonstrated in our Phase I effort-- includes mobile Sensor Nodes that wirelessly supply compressed 3D range data and color imagery to a central Fusion Node. The Fusion Node runs 3D recon ...

Scale up of EO polymers and their utilization in novel nano-imprinted sub-wavelength waveguide-based Modulators and Arrays
SBC: TIPD, LLC Topic: AF11BT01ABSTRACT: The Phase II technical objectives follow directly from the Phase I effort, where all tasks necessary for RF photonic receiver fabrication were demonstrated. The Phase II effort will pursue two major objectives: 1) further development of SEO100 EO polymer based chips, packaged devices and arrays in collaboration with University of Dayton (antenna designs), taking advantage of multiphoto ...

Solar Blind MgZnO Photodetectors
SBC: AGNITRON TECHNOLOGY, INC Topic: A13AT006This project address the fabrication of solar blind detectors from the MgZnO material system. Both MBE and MOCVD material growth techniques will be used for deposition of the required material layers. Simulation software we be used to aid in the design of the photodetector structure. Devices will be fabricated from the grown structures and their electrical and optical characteristics determined.

Sensitivity Analysis Methods for Complex, Multidisciplinary Systems
SBC: Zona Technology, Inc Topic: AF11BT06ABSTRACT: The overall technical objective of this Phase II effort is to develop computational tools for computing response sensitivities of parametric multi-disciplinary air vehicle systems that exhibit nonlinear dynamic behavior for use in gradient-based optimization, smart sampling, uncertainty quantification, and risk assessment. To this end, the ZONA/MIT team will extend the 2-D ZEUS time-dom ...

Development of an Efficient Flutter and Limit Cycle Oscillation Predictive Tool
SBC: Zona Technology, Inc Topic: AF14AT04In this Phase II effort, an accurate, user-friendly, well validated, and production-ready efficient flutter and Limit Cycle Oscillation (LCO) predictive tool will be developed. The ZONA Euler Unsteady Solver (ZEUS) will be first modified to improve its computational efficiency by automating the load balancing Message Passing Interface (MPI) and to incorporate a time-accurate boundary layer method. ...

Physics-Based Models for Mid-IR Bismides Semiconductor Lasers
SBC: NONLINEAR CONTROL STRATEGIES, INC. Topic: AF14AT27ABSTRACT: The objective of this STTR is to determine the potential of the novel III-V-Bi material system for laser applications for the 3-5m window with the potential of watt-level powers for Air Force applications. This wavelength range is currently inadequately served for CW operation at room temperature by three challenging technologies: i) quantum cascade lasers (QCL), interband cascade lasers ...

DREAMIT- Design, Reconfigure and Evaluate Autonomous Models in Training
SBC: Tier 1 Performance Solutions, LLC Topic: AF15AT14Our Phase I work focused on improving modeling and simulations so that the impact of autonomous systems in the battlespace could be better understood. As we have trained our attention on Phase II, it has become increasingly clear that the work we are doing to improve the modeling and simulation of autonomous systems also provides significant leverage for the development of the intelligent behavior ...

Reverberation Mitigation of Speech
SBC: Minerva Systems & Technologies, LLC Topic: AF15AT17Automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology is in wide use today and has been successfully integrated into a number of applications. Although there are also many potential applications for automatic speaker identification (SID), SID accuracy rates are generally not sufficient for widespread use in practical applications. For high accuracy ASR and SID, the microphone must be located near the talk ...

Snapshot Imaging Laser Displacement Sensor for Hypersonic Diagnostic Testing
SBC: CONTROL VISION INC Topic: AF15AT38The Air Force is interested in hypersonic (M>5) systems that enable time-critical missions for strike and Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR). Perhaps more so than for any other flight regime, precise and accurate sensing of key phenomena is difficult without contaminating the data being collected. During the Phase I program, Control Vision, Inc developed unique optical profilometry t ...
