  1. Scale up of EO polymers and their utilization in novel nano-imprinted sub-wavelength waveguide-based Modulators and Arrays

    SBC: TIPD, LLC            Topic: AF11BT01

ABSTRACT: The Phase II technical objectives follow directly from the Phase I effort, where all tasks necessary for RF photonic receiver fabrication were demonstrated. The Phase II effort will pursue two major objectives: 1) further development of SEO100 EO polymer based chips, packaged devices and arrays in collaboration with University of Dayton (antenna designs), taking advantage of multiphoto ...

  2. Solar Blind MgZnO Photodetectors

SBC: AGNITRON TECHNOLOGY, INC            Topic: A13AT006

This project address the fabrication of solar blind detectors from the MgZnO material system. Both MBE and MOCVD material growth techniques will be used for deposition of the required material layers. Simulation software we be used to aid in the design of the photodetector structure. Devices will be fabricated from the grown structures and their electrical and optical characteristics determined.

  3. Sensitivity Analysis Methods for Complex, Multidisciplinary Systems

SBC: Zona Technology, Inc            Topic: AF11BT06

ABSTRACT: The overall technical objective of this Phase II effort is to develop computational tools for computing response sensitivities of parametric multi-disciplinary air vehicle systems that exhibit nonlinear dynamic behavior for use in gradient-based optimization, smart sampling, uncertainty quantification, and risk assessment. To this end, the ZONA/MIT team will extend the 2-D ZEUS time-dom ...

  4. Coordination and Performance Metrics in Command and Control Environments

SBC: Sandia Research Corporation            Topic: AF16AT09

Measurement of coordination and performance in team training environments is essential for accurately evaluating training effectiveness and progress. Coordination and performance are tightly coupled. As coordination improves, team performance improves. As command and control systems become larger and more complex, measurement of performance and coordination becomes increasingly difficult. This Pha ...

  5. Phase Transitions, Nucleation and Mixing Modeling through Trans-Critical Conditions

SBC: COMBUSTION RESEARCH AND FLOW TECHNOLOGY INC            Topic: AF14AT23

The goal of this Phase II effort is to achieve significant improvements in our understanding and modeling of trans-critical combustors operating at high pressure in regimes of interest to the Air Force. There are three main objectives we pursue:1) The use ofmolecular dynamic models as a predictive tool for thermodynamic and transport properties of mixtures, 2) Improved liquid/gas interface models a ...

  6. Robust Mid-IR Optical Fibers

SBC: AdValue Photonics Inc            Topic: AF15AT02

The development of mid-infrared (Mid-IR) transparent fibers having low propagation loss in the wavelength range 2-5 micron, robust mechanical properties, low temperature sensitivity and high laser power delivery capability has been investigated extensively in the last decade. Chalcogenide glass fibers, fluoride glass fibers, tellurite glass fibers, and microstructured silica fibers have been studi ...

  7. Novel, High-Temperature Power-Generation for Long Duration Hypersonic Platforms

SBC: Physics, Materials, and Applied Mathematics Research L.L.C.            Topic: AF15AT39

The ability to convert extreme aerodynamic heating into electricity via thermoelectric generators presents a unique opportunity to leverage this otherwise undesirable condition. The harvested energy can be used to power the significant electrical demand of a hypersonic/long range vehicle while also aiding in managing high temperatures. To address this need for an high temperature thermoelectric ge ...

  8. Investigating Satellites Cataloged as Debris (ISCAD)

    SBC: Geost, Inc.            Topic: AF16AT04

GEOST has teamed with the University of Arizona to create a one-person mobile telescope, mount, and camera able to track nearly all cataloged space debris. In Phase II of the ISCAD effort also called RoboScope, GEOST and the University of Arizona will implement the Phase I design in functional hardware and software, and then demonstrate the mobile observatory at the customer site.GEOST brings the O ...

  9. Real Time 3-D Modeling and Immersive Visualization for Enhanced Soldier Situation Awareness

SBC: Carnegie Robotics LLC            Topic: A12aT003

We propose a rapid mapping and 3-D visualization system especially suited for inside buildings, tunnels, urban canyons, and other environments where GPS may be poor or not available. The system--which was fully demonstrated in our Phase I effort-- includes mobile Sensor Nodes that wirelessly supply compressed 3D range data and color imagery to a central Fusion Node. The Fusion Node runs 3D recon ...
