Abstract
The objective of this project is to create a commercialized version of a Common Parts Catalog (CPC) Information Management System that is practical, highly flexible and cost-effective for small and medium sized (second tier) shipyards. The CPC Information Management System will interface with a shipyard's parts catalog and provide a standardized view of the parts data that can be easily searched and shared with other CPC compliant shipyard partners. The project will create an affordable CPC Information Management Solution that addresses two basic business cases. The first case is the second-tier shipyard which wants to operate in a CPC environment using its legacy systems and processes and does not want to migrate to a new parts catalog or database. The second case is the shipyard that wishes to migrate to a new CPC compliant parts catalog and material system, but also has the requirement to collaborate with other shipyards, suppliers, and subcontractors. This project will create an integrated environment that will build upon the research conducted during Phase I and utilizing the ISEC-EC Shipbuilding/Supplier Data Element Dictionary (DED), the ISEC-EC Shipbuilding/Supplier Taxonomy developed under previous NSRP projects, as well as the ISE III CPC project now in progress. The new products developed during this project will be marketed to the U.S. and global shipbuilding industry and supported as standard products.
