AbstractAuriga Measurement Systems, LLC and BAE Systems have teamed for this program. The objective is to reduce the intermodulation distortion (IMD) in wide bandgap solid state amplifiers that results from multi-tone signals. For this program, up to 8 simultaneous tones will be studied. To demonstrate the reduction of IMD, a power amplifier will be made that is capable of operating under multi-tone drive without sacrificing the efficiency of the amplifier. This program will be a two-year continuation of the six-month Phase I SBIR. During that effort, an amplifier was designed that is capable of meeting the requirements set by the Navy. This work will create a prototype from that effort. This program will investigate a method known as envelope tracking, which enables an amplifier to operate in a multi-tone environment without sacrificing the efficiency. Auriga is proposing a novel concept of using Gallium Nitride (GaN) to implement the envelope tracking method.
