Abstract
THIS HIGH-PERFORMANCE, RAPID-SCANNING IMAGING SPECTROMETER USES AN ACOUSTO-OPTIC TUNABLE FILTER (AOTF) AS THE WAVELENGTH TUNING DEVICE. A RISK-REDUCTION EFFORT WILL BE CONDUCTED DURING PHASE I. THE TASKS INCLUDE DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO VARY THE SPECTRAL BANDPASS OF THE AOTF AND CARRYING OUT THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE IMAGING CHARACTERISTICS OF AOTFS. THE RESULTS OF THEPHASE I EFFORT WILL BE USED FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A HIGH-PERFORMANCE IMAGING SPECTROMETER IN PHASE II.
