AbstractAn innovative and cost-effective approach is proposed for site survey and detection of buried ordnance. The technique is based on development of a "ground penetrating radar" (GPR) and associated multitask software control package. This system can be used to generate, transmit into the ground, and receive step frequency electromagnetic signals with ability to control the frequency number. Algorithm shall be provided to show the necessary steps for software control program development to enable acceptance of the site specific data, subsequent determination of the ground "dielectric" constant, and capability to control the resulting resonant frequency. Such capability coupled with image processing, "tomography," shall enable detection of ordnance with sizes varying from tens of centimeters to several meters at depth varying from few centimeters to 50 meters. Application of Bakhtar's explosive safety criteria, deeloped under separate SBIR program for the Ai force, shall be demonstrated to secure the exposed site (ES) around detected target (s) and subsequnelty detonate the ordnance using low explosives (fuse) detonators.
