Abstract

Community-based networks are vital for accurate surveillance of drug abuse patterns and trends becaprovide for information exchange about drug use patterns, risk factors for drug use, newly emergingdrug-related health consequences, and for improvements in outreach, prevention, intervention, and trknown about the nature and extent of drug abuse and health compromising behaviors among Native Ameriparticularly among adolescents. The purpose of this project is to develop an automated instructionacommunity-based epidemiology work groups in Native American reservation communities. During this Phprototype instructional system will be developed and demonstrated for use in one Native American resIts goals will be to (1) propose a culturally sensitive curriculum for members to establish and holgroups; (2) demonstrate the feasibility of using microcomputer based systems with interactive instrupurpose; and (3) demonstrate the feasibility of producing an on-line primer of epidemiologic conceptgrounded in cultural traditions and promotes the accurate collection, interpretation, and use of druIf Phase I is successful, Phase II will permit the development and expansion of the automated instruNative American reservation communities for the establishment of epidemiology work groups.
