Abstract
Not Available Nanofibers have found a market in filter applications because of their high surface area and ability to effect a large pressure drop over a small thickness. Although their use in filter applications is known, methods to produce large quantities of nanofiber sheets are kept as trade secrets, limiting the progression of this technology into other application areas of interest to the Army. This proposal seeks to address technical issues which limit the production of nanofibers at a large scale and produce quipment for scale-up fabrication. BENEFITS: Improved availability of nanofiber mats will spur product related application research. Potential applications which may benefit are filtration, catalyst supports, biological coatings, and reinforcements for composites.
