Abstract

To dominate the battlespace, the future warfighter will need “better” intelligence. Better meaning faster, more accurate, higher information content and readily accessible across all forces and allies. Bodkin Design and Engineering, LLC has developed a technique that will provide hyperspectral data using a patent-pending staring Hyperpixel Array (HPA). The HPA provides the unprecedented capture of the entire hyperspectral datacube in each data frame. This system will be integrated into the Omni Spotter dual-band imager to provide co-registered LWIR imagery and VNIR hyperspectral imagery. The system will be accessible via a wireless network. Under commands from the network, the instrument will survey the field of regard, and relay LWIR imagery to the laptop screen. Through mouse clicks, the operator will interrogate objects in the image. The system will automatically aim, capture and analyze the hyperspectral signature of the objects. Results will be displayed as a false color overlay with a category table indicating material composition. The system will demonstrate time critical targeting over a distributed common ground system. It will provide day/night operability with thermal imaging in the IR and the equivalent performance of intensified night vision in the VNIR.
