Abstract
"In order to improve and facilitate real-time coordination of Theater Missile Defense (TMD) weapon system elements, and provide seamlessly efficient processing of mission critical information over geographically separated TMD facilities and personnel, theMissile Defense Agency (MDA) requires new-generation, data compression and security algorithm development. This new algorithm must incorporate both encryption and compression features for highly-secure high-speed data flow to improve systemresponsiveness, while preventing critical information loss. To address this demand, Broadata Communications, Inc. (BCI) proposes to develop a novel, high-speed, highly-secure, data marking technology (HiMARK). In contrast to the currently availableprotocol-layer encryption scheme, BCI's proposed HiMARK technology encrypts and compresses the transmitted data at the physical layer. HiMARK is based on the idea that raw data itself is well encrypted, maximizing the security of data flow in a network.Because of its use of physical layer processing, the HiMARK can simultaneously accommodate conventional, proven, protocol-layer encryption schemes. The combination of both physical-layer and protocol-layer encryption schemes make unauthorized decryptionhighly improbable.
