Abstract
Contemporary high performance data networks such as telecom core networks and Air Force's mission critical networks carry a wide range of multimedia data services which require an outstanding Quality of Service (QoS) to provide performance guarantees. With the advent of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network standards, the QoS performance has been making significant progresses. However, attention has turned to the task of managing these QoS networks more efficiently through the handling of network traffic. Current solutions are focused primarily on the task of passive corrective traffic management, with little attention paid to active preventive network traffic management. In other words, today's networks are statically planned, and do not respond well to frequent dynamic changes in traffic levels. In addition, there is no network management tool that provides network traffic forecasting, and offers a preventive network management tool. To address these problems, Broadata Communications Inc. (BCI) proposes an innovative Traffic Forecasting Assisted QoS Planner (TAQ) for achieving active network traffic management. The goal of this Phase II project is to complete the development of a full-scale TAQ technology to demonstrate a TAQ system prototype for effective real-time predictive traffic management within MPLS-enabled networks.
