Mid enthusiastically proposes the development of the BISCEP engine (Biomass-Incinerating-Stirling-Cycle-Energy-Provider) to provide electrical energy to the Marines free of reliance on fossil fuels and at a small, man-portable, scale. Meeting these requirements is extremely important since the proliferation of modern technologic devices has brought a higher energy demand, therefore creating a dangerous and onerous burden on fuel and batteries re-supply missions. Mid plans to provide a new type of energy source for the Marines, one that uses biomass material (wet or dry) to provide heat by incineration in order to drive an energy conversion mechanism which will output electrical power. Mid plans to initially investigate the size ranges of 100-200 W and 20-40 lbm. Through the use of modern modeling tools to optimize the engine, as well as new and more advanced materials, Mid believes that the required energy densities from the BISCEP engine can be met.
