Abstract
Our baseline concept is to precisely locate the aircraft relative to the ship, using a cooperative 6 Degree of Freedom (6-DoF) optical sensing system. The system also identifies the ship though time modulation on the sensing system. The 6-DoF information is combined with a database of the ship’s geometry to provide Object Proximity Warning data to the Ground Proximity Warning System. The system is designed to reject false signals and confirm true signals, in order to provide extreme robustness. We include robust, simplified use of laser radar to detect objects in the should-be-empty space defined by the baseline system.
