AbstractWe propose to develop ne%v methodolooy allowing non-technical planners to specify, generate, and solve multidimensional logistics network problems. Our approach is based on in- tegrating new generations of multidimensional spreadsheet software, mathematical programming languages, and ultimately interactive map-based user interfaces. Multidimensional logistics network problems include multicommodity flow prob- lems time-expanded network flow problems, networks with addtional non-network constraints, and 0/1 integer network problems. For escample, the number of planes of type C5 moving between Scott AFB and lliblcam AFB in a five-day period is an example of a multidimensional decision variable in a logistics network. We focus on this class of problems ijecause of their im- portance in practics^ their technical complexity requiring advanced mathematical optimization approches available in mathematical programming languages, and their multi- dimensional nature suggesting the opportunity to exploit advanced multidimensional spreadsheet user interfaces.
