AbstractThe management and dissemination of Inboard and offboard information and the associated situation assessment of the tactical picture and determination of the associated response is a major task for Air Force personnel. Significant effort has been made in countering this challenge with advances in sensor capabilities. enhancements in onboard avionics, and combined intra and inter service command, control, and communications. This rapid evolution must be met with concomitant advance in fusing information from disparate sources and providing the capability to detect, track, classify, and engage targets and provide timely assessment of the situation. Additionally, a rapid and verifiable means is needed in situ for the control and management of sensor and information assets. Here, we propose to develop an Intelligent Fusion and Asset Management Processor (IFAMP) for enhancing tactical awareness for Air Force command and control. The innovation here is the incorporation of two synergistic technologies: the embedded knowledge, human like reasoning, and incorporation of ambiguous information of fuzzy logic; and the situation assessment and diagnostic and inferential reasoning capabilities of belief networks. Specifically, the IFAMP incorporates the following components: a fuzzy logic low level fusion manager, fuzzy logic event detection, belief networks for situation assessment, and a fuzzy based asset management component.
