Abstract

The complexity and cost of Air Force satellite ground control operations, coupled with current downsizing efforts, point to the need for space-based diagnostic capability for satellite systems. Cybernet Systems proposed the development of an innovative diagnostic architecture. This architecture will combine artificial intelligence paradigms such as neural networks and expert systems to create a diagnostic agent. This system will have immediate use in ground operations, and will be a viable candidate for moving to space to be located on the satellites themselves. Cybernet's innovative approach to solving the diagnostic problem will embed a general-purpose diagnostic engine within a reconfigurable framework, thereby creating a diagnostic agent with tremendous dual-use potential. This proposal leverages Cybernet Systems' extensive experience with artificial intelligence and adaptive network systems design and systems integration, particularly in the areas of diagnostic systems and space-related software.
