Research Institution
In Phase I of the Raman Bio Identification (RBI) Robot project, the team of ChemImage Corporation and Applied Perception, Inc. proved the feasibility of a Raman proximity biothreat agent detector integrated on a standard UGV. In Phase II, the team of ChemImage Corporation and API will continue the commercialization process of a Raman-based detection system for UGV use. A plug-and-play type interface specification for chemical, biological and/or explosive (CBE) detectors will be developed and evaluated for its suitability for five promising CBE detector technologies. A brass board system for a Raman proximity detector will be designed and built following the CBE detector payload module specification and evaluated on a UGV platform in limited field trials. A key part of Phase II will be the integration of the CBE module into the JAUS environment. Phase II ends with a Preliminary Design Review of this system and recommendations for Phase III.
