Abstract

ATA Engineering proposes a Phase II SBIR project to develop detailed designs and full-scale prototypes of a thermal insulating barrier system for Marine Corps softwall shelters. The project will build upon a fabric barrier concept developed in Phase I and shown to meet Marine Corps requirements for insulative (R-value), packed thickness, and weight density. ATA will collaborate with HDT Global, manufacturer of the Base-X family of softwall shelters, to design, fabricate, and test an insulating barrier for the Expeditionary Shelter System (ESS) (Medium). Testing will be performed at the material coupon level to verify compliance with applicable standards, at the subcomponent level to verify manufacturability and thermal performance, and at full scale to demonstrate insulative performance and operational deployment and stowage.
