Abstract
The overall objective of the Phase I and Phase II program is to develop a prototype airwake measurement system that offers substantially - improved capability for measuring and developing models of the wind environment for ship-board landing of helicopters. The proposed Phase I study will carry out a survey of airwake data characteristics of various as-sea helicopter landing environments with primary emphasis on ship landings, but also including off-shore platforms and other wind-sensitive landing environments. Although we plan to review alternate techniques, CTI belives that the current state-of-lidar techniques is such than an instrument based on this technology offers the greates potential for such a measurement program and this technology will be emphasized.
