Abstract
The goal of this project is to improve remedial math instruction for adults by combining (a) an effective adult education model; (b) an effective instructional design method, with; (c) the multimedia capabilities of the computer. The innovative combination of these components will produce an effective math program designed specifically for adult learners that can be used at home, at school, or at work. Delivering this combined approach on CD-ROM will further reduce the costs of implementation and make it possible to increase the dissemination. In Phase I, we will build a prototype of a segment of instruction to evaluate the feasibility of combining these components to teach math. In Phase II the prototype will be expanded and field-tested. The ultimate objective is to produce a full curriculum of highly effective remedial math courses for adults. KEY WORDS: education, computer, computer-based instruction, multimedia, software, CD-ROM
