Research Institution
Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG) proposes the use of bio-inspired sensing concepts to develop novel, low cost polymer composite sensors for military as well as commercial applications. CRG will investigate the design and fabrication of sensors with the use of conducting polymer composite, and by drawing inspiration from known biological sensing mechanisms reported in the literature. The use of polymer composite materials to fabricate sensors will lead to significant cost saving due to greater versatility, flexibility and fault tolerance of polymeric materials comparing with silicon. The employment of bio-inspired sensing mechanism will lead to novel sensing capability, such as the possibility of multi-functionality, and improved performance, such as greater sensitivity and room temperature operation.
