Abstract
Cornerstone Research Group Inc. (CRG) proposes to develop composite marine vehicles capable of autonomous heath monitoring in service with capability to control and mitigate damage sustained during operation resulting from impact, fatigue or over-stressing components. Restoration of the structural integrity of damaged areas will be accomplished through an autonomous sensor initiated healing cycle. Autonomous damage recognition and repair has the potential to reduce the need for preventative maintenance and repair on composite water craft as well as reducing craft weight through improved design margins. Reduction in manpower needs for maintenance reduces long term operating costs. CRG will leverage its experience in development of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques to enable implementation of this new technology in a manner that will streamline production, rendering a product that is comparable in cost and with better performance than current products.
