Abstract
The development of a new process for the continuous separation of w aste plastic particles by type into purified streams for sale and recycling is proposed. This approach is based on the segregation of particles by density in liquid-fluidized bed classifiers (LFBC). The primary objective of the proposed work is "proof-of-concept" for the LFBC approach; that is, the experimental demonstration and quantitative characterization of the separation of binary mixtures of different types of plastics along the axial flow direction in a pilot-scale, water-fluidized column.
