Abstract
A REQUIREMENT EXISTS TO DEVELOP ELECTROMAGNETIC SHIELDING TECHNIQUES APPLICABLE TO INFRARED TRANSMISSIVE WINDOWS, LENSES AND DOMES TO COUNTER THE GROWING THREAT OF ELECTROMAGNETIC COUNTERMEASURES. THIS PROGRAM WILL EXAMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF PRODUCING INDUCTIVE GRIDS AND PATTERNS THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO THE INFRARED OPTICAL MATERIALS ZINC SULFIDE (ZNS) AND ZINC SELENIDE (ZNSE) TO PROVIDE EMI PROTECTION OVER THE FREQUENCY RANGE OF 0.5 MHZ TO 2 GHZ. SEVERAL TEST METALLIC GRIDS AND PATTERNS WILL BE DESIGNED USING A COMBINATION OF ANALYTICAL METHODS AND EXISTING COMPUTER MODELS. THESE GRIDS WILL BE APPLIED TO SAMPLES OF ZNS AND ZNSE BY PHOTOLITHOGRAPHY AND CHEMICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION. THE EMI SHIELDING EFFECTIVENESS OF THE GRIDS WILL BE MEASURED AT X-BAND USING A WAVEGUIDE SIMULATOR. ADDITIONAL ANALYSIS WILL BE PERFORMED TO INTERPRET THE DATA AND TO EXAMINE DESIGN ISSUES FOR MORE SPECIFIC OR STRESSING REQUIREMENTS.
