Abstract

We propose to investigate two approaches to improve earth-penetrator trajectory stability during high-speed penetration: hardening the nose and cleverly shaping the penetrator. An analytical and computational study will evaluate the merit and potential payoff of each approach, and specific means of implementing each approach will be selected for further development and testing.
