Abstract

ABSTRACT: ArchieMD proposes to integrate visual 3-D computer models, with a game engine, and haptics provide an immersive training environment for intraosseous infusion procedures. This SBIR project will demonstrate proof of concept of this revolutionary new teaching model. This system will include state of the art medically correct and realistic interactive visualization of patients at multiple levels (whole patient, organ systems, individual organs, etc.) and haptic devices to providetactile feedback. The proposed system will enable trainees to develop visual representations of intraosseous infusionprocedures with simulated human hands manipulating instruments on a lifelike computer generatedpatient model, that corresponds to their actions through the integration of haptic devices.Optional superimposed internal anatomy, visualized during the procedure reinforces the identification of critical external anatomical landmarks and illustrates the proper guidance of instruments within the body.; BENEFIT: Transition the model through widespread commercialization and government acquisition. Deliver the final product for the government and private sector market. Applications should be ready military schoolhouses, training communities, and the commercial sector.
