Abstract

DCS Corporation's Phase I efforts have shown the technical feasibility for an accurate Driver Assist Smart Alignment System (DASAS). The DASAS replaces the on-the-ground spotters required for guiding the PLS and HEMTT/LHS vehicles to their "targets" during CROP loading operations. The "targets" are aircraft with logistical rail systems and ISO containers. The DASAS will provide real-time feedback to the driver, to include range to the target and misalignment (angular and linear) between the vehicle and the target. With our unique solution, the driver display is easy to interpret as well. The system will also warn the driver of any obstacles in the path of the vehicle. The system will be a new application of machine vision technology and will utilize commercial-off-the-shelf components. During Phase II of this effort, DCS Corporation will finalize our design for the electro-optical subsystem, the electrical subsystem, the ruggedized system packaging, and the system software. We will conduct laboratory and field experiments to refine the operation and image processing algorithms. Our Phase II efforts will culminate in the successful demonstration of a prototype DASAS.
