Abstract
Under phase I of this program, DRT identified a feasible design approach that very nearly meets or exceeds the requirements for this portable wireless receiving system. The critical areas of size, weight, power consumption, performance and ruggedness wereall addressed. Along with major breakthroughs in power and size reduction, the mechanical design was refined to implement an innovative, passive cooling technique and provides a small, lightweight and rugged enclosure that can be operated in any physicaloriention. This provides flexibilty and allows the system to be used in various configurations including backpack, vehicle, laboratory, ship, aircraft and UAV platforms. The software architecture remains compatible with existing DRT solutions and will beleveraged to provide the required functionality, flexibility and upgradability for this system. During phase II, DRT plans to refine and expand on the phase I findings to provide detailed hardware and software designs. The detailed designs will be usedto produce prototype systems if the optional phase IIa is granted.
