Abstract
The objective is the creation and development of the ystem al Common Operating Environment (CSTCOE). DSR proposes a CSTOE based on a Combat System Middleware Standard (CSMS) that will enable innovative use of middleware software as both a breakwall and interface between combat system software applications, operating system(s), and platform hardware and communications systems. This use of middleware will enable transparent communications between application tasks/processes on distributed operating systems and hardware over a heterogeneous network of computers. The independence and portability of the software applications from the hardware and communications systems will enable technical refreshment of legacy systems and insertion of new hardware and software to the combat systems at costs significantly below current levels. This approach also can be used to expand the use of select combat system software applications, such as CEC, to other platforms participating in Joint Theater Air Missile Defense (JTAMD) on the Joint Composite Tracking Network (JCTN). These platforms would be both airborne (such as E2C, AWACS) and ground based (such as Patriot, THAAD, CSAM/MEADS, or TAOC).
