Abstract
Rugged, comfortable and reliable physiological monitoring systems are required to allow military commanders and medical personnel to assess the basic health and readiness of the warfighter. Direct monitoring of the health and status of individual warfighters is defined as a key capability for the next generation of warfighter ensemble. Monitoring every warfighter is stated as a system performance need across multiple warfighter modernization programs, such as the Armys Nett Warrior program. Previous and ongoing work at institutions such the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and The Netherlands Organization (TNO) has resulted in notable sensor developments and substantial controlled test data to support the need for more widespread use. However, the reality of technology development and implementation to date is that rugged, fully functional sensor systems that meet comfort and cost requirements do not yet exist. To address this key market gap, Human Systems Integration, Inc. will develop a tactical compression garment platform (TacSANO) . The TacSANO electronic garment (eGarment) will be configurable, during manufacturing, to integrate any requisite sensor suite to leverage established algorithms for items such as heat stress, dehydration and cognitive awareness.
