Ziva Corporation propose a powerful approach called Color Airborne Night Vision Sensor (CANVAS) to achieve true color imaging performance from avionic platforms in both night and day conditions from a single sensor system offer a significant boost in interpretability for military operations. The CANVAS approach combines an ultra-high sensitivity Commercial Off the shelf CMOS camera with a customized, dual-mode optical train. Development of a dual-mode, color night vision sensor around a high sensitivity CMOS camera promises to enable warfighters to operate in minimal illumination levels during night operations and at long slant ranges for daytime missions, without sacrificing the cost, size, weight, and power required to support separate day and night sensors. CANVAS promises to provide an upgrade path to telescope imaging sensors in airborne gimbals imagers, by adding color night imaging and by relieving the need for separate night and day sensors. CANVAS telescopes are designed to integrate in deployed gimbal systems and to provide suitable magnification for long range daytime imaging and extreme light collection for starlight imaging. Target commercial applications for the low light color camera include: scientific/medical, cinema, reality TV, nature wildlife, astronomy, hunting, industrial as well as night-time surveillance and law enforcement markets.
