Abstract

Hook and loop technology lags behind the present needs of the military and commercial marketplaces. There is a perceived need for new and improved products. Diversified Marketing Group’s SBIR proposal puts forward the most significant advances, offering a whole new family of extruded “single touch,” “self-mating” closures that revolutionizes every testable property and characteristic specified for Type II, Class I of A-A-55126. DMG proposes to combine R&D and the marketplace need, the driving force behind the development and sale of innovative products. “Traditional” hook and loop products are not “self-mating closures” and the woven construction lends to peeling, “edge fray” and loop material fatigue; engagement and disengagement force requirements and launderability failures are manifest. New Self Mating Closures must prove compatible with all existing manual and automatic sewing equipment without needle and thread breakage. It must be durable with an extended life cycle. The new product will come in widths from 5/8” to 4 inches. It will neither fray nor peel; it will exhibit color fastness; it will be flame retardant and heat resistant to ironing. It shall also be UV resistant, lint, dirt and mud repellent, and silent.
