Abstract
This SBIR project will develop an integrated fabrication and assembly approach for flexible and modular IMM integral blanket/interconnect system (IBIS) assemblies using composite manufacturing techniques. The approach will build on DR Technologies ongoing work related to coverglass replacement technologies and laminated modular solar array fabrication. The proposed integral blanket/interconnect system (IBIS) will provide drastic improvements in solar panel specific power and stowability and can be integrated into a rolled-up, thin-film solar array. BENEFIT: There is an urgent need for the supply of space solar arrays with improved cost, reliability, stowability, and high specific power. A successful Phase I will demonstrate the feasibility of the innovations using IMM solar cells and materials with space flight heritage, albeit in a new and innovative configuration.
