Abstract
75755-Scientific computations require large computer power provided by very expensive supercomputers. However, another way to achieve the required performance is to connect several commodity PCs in parallel. In order to provide the computational power required by the scientific and academic community, the connectivity mechanism must provide high performance at low cost. This project will utilize a cluster structure to provide high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity at low cost. In Phase I, the proposed cluster interconnect mechanism will be modeled and evaluated to ascertain the feasibility of the technology. Then, the product specification will be designed for Phase II implementation. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: High performance, low cost cluster interconnect technology should be valuable for both federal and commercial applications, providing high-performance computing power at fairly low cost.
