Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PHASE I PROGRAM IS TO DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A LOW-THERMAL-CONDUCTIVITY CONNECTOR USING A LASER-BASED PROCESS. THE CONNECTOR WILL CONSIST OF A GRAPHITE CORE, A METAL INTERPHASE LAYER, AND A HIGH-TC SUPERCONDUCTING CERAMIC SURFACE LAYER. LENGTHS OF THE FIBER WIRE FORMED WILL BE TESTED FOR ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES; SURFACE MORPHOLOGYAND CHEMISTRY WILL BE CHARACTERIZED USING SEM AND AUGER PROFILE ANALYSIS.
