The aircraft Nondestructive Inspection Section, 76 AMXG/MXDEN needs a more efficient and effective means to track surface inspections, specifically Ultrasonic (UT) thickness measurements.UT thickness inspections are part of a daily workload for 76 AMXG/MXDEN and can occur on each aircraft that is inspected.Close-range, hand-held UT thickness measurement are currently recorded manually using pencil and grid paper. These measurements are used to map out corrosion or the remaining thickness of blended areas on wing and body skin. The handwritten recordings provide limited contextual information of the inspection area about the aircraft. Additionally, the burden of spatially translating the recordings introduces more delays for 76 AMXG/MXDEN customers.Cybernet Systems Corporation developed an innovative Tracker technology under SBIR contract with NASA Langley from 2010-2013 to track and localize NDI sensors in six degrees of freedom.Following further Cybernet investment and successful demonstrations of the technology from 2014-2015, Tinker AFB confirmed interest in transitioning the Tracker to enhance their surface inspections and deliverables.During this effort Cybernet will integrate the Tracker with existing NDI inspection equipment, and harden the Tracker for rapid setup and execution under every circumstance to provide mobile, color-mapped C-Scan generation.
