Abstract
ECOTEK INTERNATIONAL PROPOSES AN ALL SOLID-STATE VISIBILITY MONITORING SYSETM THAT WILL BE USED TO MONITOR VISIBILITY CONDITIONS ALONG ROADWAYS AND WARN TRAVELERS OF LOW VISIBILITY CONDITIONS. THE PURPOSE OF THE SYSTEM IS TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF MULTIPLE-VEHICLE COLLISIONS AND CONSEQUENT FATALITIES, INJURIES, AND PROPERTY DAMAGES. THE SYSTEM IS BASED ON AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO A WELL-ESTABLISHED DETECTION TECHNOLOGY WHICH IS THE FOUNDATION FOR A SAFE, ACCURATE, RELIABLE AND EXTREMELY COST-EFFECTIVE SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM WILL AUTOMATICALLY REPORT DETERIORATING VISIBILITY AND PROVIDE LOCATION, SPEED ADVISORY OR ROAD CLOSURE MESSAGES TO HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL WHO CURRENTLY CONTROL VARIABLE MESSAGE BOARDS, RADIO ADVISORIES, PORTS OF ENTRY AND OTHER MEANS OF WARNING TRAVELERS. THE SYSTEM LENDS EASILY TO COMPLETE AUTOMATION AND COULD BE DIRECTLY TIED TO WARNING DEVICES.
