Abstract
THIS STUDY INVOLVES THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF HIGHLY IONICALLY CONDUCTIVE POLYMER ELECTROLYTES. THE POLYMERS WILL BE PREPARED BY A NEW, GENERAL SYNTHETIC PROCEDURE THAT ALLOWS THE PREPARATION OF A VARIETY OF POLYMERS WHOSE METAL SALT COMPLEXES WOULD HAVE HIGH IONIC CONDUCTIVITY AT OR NEAR ROOM TEMPERATURE. WHEN FULLY DEVELOPED, SOME OF THESE ELECTROLYTES ARE EXPECTED TO SHOW SPECIFIC ION CONDUCTIVITY. SELECTED LITHIUM AND MAGNESIUM SALT COMPLEXES OF TWO OF THESE POLYMERS WILL BE PREPARED ANDCHARACTERIZED IN PHASE I. A SOLID STATE LI/TIS2 SECONDARY BATTERY WILL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH THE BEST ELECTROLYTE, AND BATTERY PERFORMANCE WILL BE EVALUATED.
