Abstract

Not Available This phase I SBIR effort will establish the feasibility of employing neurobiologically motivated algorithms for representations of visual information as used by the brain, to detect features of interest (FOI) and changes in images over time. This effort will be accomplished through development of models and algorithms that emulate the representation of information by the brain. The algorithms include advanced Independent Component Analysis and Gabor filter techniques applied to image transformation and feature detection. This effort will also be accomplished by analyzing the obtained image transformations for several selected key FOI to determine how this information is used in FOW recognition by the brain. The combinations of ICA and Gabor filter methods will be explored to best capture the underlying structures of images in the neurobiologically based representations. Information Systems Laboratories (ISL) proposes to investigate algorithms that successfully apply these concepts to image understanding, in particular detection of FOI and changes in imagery.
