Abstract
Electron Energy Corporation and University of Delaware propose to develop multiphase nanocomposite magnets with room temperature maximum energy product potentially up to 100 MGOe for high temperature applications. Multiphase nanocomposite magnets could take the advantage of the extremely high coercivity of SmCo alloys, the high saturation magnetization and moderate intrinsic coercivity of other hard magnetic phases (such as Alnico, high ratio z SmCo2:17, and Nd-Fe-B), and the high saturation magnetization of soft magnetic phases (such as a-Fe). We will also develop anisotropic core/shell structures by electrochemical deposition and bulk-hardened nanocomposite magnets with controlled precipitation techniques.
