Abstract
QUADRIPLEGICS HAVE SPECIAL COMMUNICATION NEEDS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE WIRELESS INFRARED NICTATING COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (WINCS) PROJECT IS TO DEMONSTRATE THE FEASIBILITY OF A SPEAKER-TYPE TELEPHONE THAT COULD BE OPERATED DIRECTLY BY EYEBLINKS. A MICROPHONE ATTACHED TO THE SPEAKERPHONE WILL ALLOW THE USER TO CONTROL SUCH FUNCTIONS AS ANSWERING, HANGING UP, AND DIALING. A MEMORY DEVICE WILL BE INCORPORATED TO ALLOW REDIALING OF FREQUENTLY NEEDED NUMBERS. CIRCUITRY WILL BE USED TO INSURE THAT INADVERTENT BLINKS WILL NOT BE RECORDED.
