Abstract

THE ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE TESTING OF ARMY SYSTEMS DEPENDS HEAVILY ON AN ABILITY TO EXCITE LARGE, FAST RISETIME CURRENTS ON SYSTEM CABLES. THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL PROVIDE A SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENT IN CABLE EXCITATION VIA DIRECT CONNECT AND MAGNETICALLY COUPLED METHODS. THE PROPOSED DESIGN IS MODULAR, ALLOWING EASY MODIFICATION OF SOURCE WAVEFORM AND ADAPTION TO A WIDE SPECTRUM OF APPLICATIONS. THE PHASE I ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE A STUDY OF NEWLY DEVELOPED FERRITE CORE MATERIALS, DEVELOPMENT OF A SCALE MODEL PROTOTYPE OF THE CABLE DRIVE SYSTEM AND A DESIGN OF THE FULL SCALE SYSTEM.
