Abstract
The performance of large sensor data acquisition systems is greatly enhanced by employing networked smart sensors based on open standards. A 64-channel thermocouple scanner is proposed which will have a Uniform Temperature Reference block, scan rate of 200 samples/sec, a resolution of 0.01 oC, TEDS for ID/calibration information and will transmit the data in the IEEE 1451 standard format. It will be miniaturized and ruggedized to meet the requirements for engine testing. Both analog and digital filtering are provided for noise reduction. In addition to providing high speed and high resolution, timing of the data acquisition or sampling is done through a time synchronization system based on the IEEE 1588 standard. High speed fiber Ethernet allows noise-free data transmission and includes an optional connection to the Internet. BENEFITS: The proposed thermocouple data acquisition system will provide high performance in a small size which is especially suitable for aircraft for engine testing. It also will provide low noise, high accuracy and transmission of data in a standard format
